What is UniCare Insurance?

UniCare is an organization that tries to bring together consumers and providers of health care coverage. UniCare does this with individual policies and with policies that are offered through places of employment.

UniCare Insurance has access to customers, employers, consultants, providers, and brokers of health care plans, and specializes in ultimately bringing together customers and providers so that the greatest number of people can gain access to the best possible health care benefits.

UniCare Insurance is a subsidiary of a company called WellPoint, a health benefits company that serves 35 million medical insurance enrollees.

It sometimes happens that what is most important to a medical consumer is a feeling of control over their health care choices. At the same time, it is important for employers and insurance providers to manage medical costs effectively.

While it may seem that these two groups (consumers and providers) are at cross purposes, UniCare Insurance specializes in making the best possible matches based on the needs of both consumers and providers.

The way UniCare does this is by accessing their extensive network of health care providers and creating the best matches between products and services the various providers offer and products and services wanted by health care consumers.

While it would be close to impossible to satisfy all of consumers’ needs and all of providers’ needs, UniCare Insurance tries to work together with those two groups so that consumers have adequate access to health care services and providers have the control necessary to manage health benefits as cost effectively as possible.

UniCare Insurance works with both employers to provide employee health benefits and with individual health care consumers to help them find the medical coverage they need. The way UniCare is able to match up needs and services so well is by offering a mix of traditional managed care programs and newer “hybrid” health care programs that make the most of traditional managed care and traditional “open access” type policies.

On the “managed care” end of the continuum are health care plans designed to more tightly manage health care costs, and on the “open access” end of the spectrum are health care plans that provide as much choice as possible for health care consumers. With UniCare Insurance many models in between these two types of coverage are offered.

In addition to these services, UniCare Insurance has an online health serviced that helps members of UniCare’s various plans explore their personal health risk factors such as their family history and lifestyle choices such as smoking. When members complete the questionnaire, they receive a report that is personalized for their particular needs.

The report contains recommendations for managing, eliminating, or at least reducing personal health risks, such as the risks associated with high cholesterol levels or diabetes. The goal of all of UniCare’s services is to provide the maximum number of enrollees with the maximum number of options while pursuing the maximum value for everyone’s health care dollar.
