Major Medical Health Insurance
As the name implies
Major Medical Health Insurance is designed to help the patient deal with the costs associated with a major and catastrophic expenses which you might incur during an extended hospital stay or even, in many cases, a home illness that is of the same catastrophic variety.
The
Major Medical Health Insurance is usually accompanied with a substantial deductible and there is most usually some form of coinsurance associated with this type of policy. What that means is that this policy is an add-on or addendum to another policy. It is designed to cover what the other policy leaves off and fill in the missing pieces or the areas where the other policy is
lax in coverage.
A
Major Medical Health Insurance policy will undoubtedly have limits on the amount and type of charges that can be charged but will almost always pay for the majority of charges for hospitals, private nursing, doctors, any specialized medical attachments or appliances as well as any prescribed treatment for things that have to happen outside of the hospital in the way of treatments, drugs and / or medicines. These are usually spelled out in no uncertain terms in the body of the policy and you should be sure to read all of the inclusions and exclusions before purchasing such a policy.
You can think of Major Medical Health Insurance as a form of supplemental and complimentary insurance policy to your current hospital, medical and surgical coverage that are handled by your normal
health insurance policy that you have.
Certainly Major Medical Health Insurance is not a
type of insurance that is right for everyone in the world and you and your doctor are the only ones that have enough pertinent information to make and informed decision on that. If there is a history or you have susceptibility in your family history where you are predisposed to getting something that might fall under the coverage offered by this type of coverage, then it is certainly something to consider.
Also you may consider getting some Major Medical Health Insurance in the event that you do things that may cause you a higher risk of needing this
type of coverage. Although if it is something such as a hobby that might cause such an injury that the policy is likely to cover, keep in mind that the exclusion of coverage due to a hazardous activity may make the coverage null and void.
Major Medical Health Insurance is certainly something to consider but for most people it is one of the last
types of insurance that they want, need or tend to purchase because few people think that a catastrophic occurrence can happen to them until it is too late.
