Low Cost Dental Insurance

Dental insurance is often surprisingly affordable. Most people (and insurers) know that dental care is a health care segment where preventive care can save patients much pain and more intensive procedures down the road. Therefore, Low Cost Dental Insurance benefits are almost always the most generous when it comes to basic, preventive dental care.

Any worthwhile Low Cost Dental Insurance plan should cover two check-ups and cleanings per year as well as x-rays and fluoride treatments. These are very low cost preventive measures that have the potential to save you and your insurance company a lot of money by preventing serious and expensive dental health problems.

Even in individuals and families who have good dental health, Low Cost Dental Insurance can be a great comfort in the event of a dental emergency. There are a number of options to consider when you are in the market for Low Cost Dental Insurance.

Traditional dental insurance is very similar to traditional health insurance in that customers pay a monthly premium and receive reimbursement benefits for some of their dental costs.

These plans are often provided as an employment benefit, but the self-employed and those whose employment doesn’t provide dental insurance can purchase Low Cost Dental Insurance individually. However, individual policies are almost always more expensive than those offered through employers.

Some employers offer dental reimbursement plans instead of traditional dental insurance plans. In this type of arrangement, you pay for your dental care out of your pocket, and then take your receipts to the employer at the end of the year for reimbursement.

While employers won’t reimburse unlimited expenses, they will often provide $500 or more of reimbursement per year, which is often enough to cover a year’s worth of basic preventive dental care for two people.

Dental discount plans are not Low Cost Dental Insurance plans, but they can help you pay for your dental expenses. If you are enrolled in a dental discount plan, you may receive a discount on services from a particular dentist.

For example, you may pay $75 rather than $100 for a basic check-up and cleaning. To enroll in a dental discount plan, you pay an enrollment fee up front and a monthly fee to the plan provider. These fees are usually much less than the cost of premiums in a Low Cost Dental Insurance plan. With dental discount plans, you will be limited to dentists who participate in the discount plan’s network of dentists.

In some workplaces, dental insurance is not offered as an employment benefit. However, sometimes a group of workers can arrange for a voluntary group plan. What this means is that though your employer does not pay any of the dental insurance premiums, the employer will set up the plan so that employees are eligible to get a group rate on premiums which is almost always less expensive than individual rates.

While dental insurance is one of the more affordable forms of insurance, even if you cannot afford to purchase a Low Cost Dental Insurance policy, keeping up with routine preventive dental care will almost certainly save you from much bigger expenses later on.
