the financial rate of the plan. Thus, COBRA is a very temporary extension of that coverage.
Obviously, as a
Family Health Insurance Plan, this is a very expensive way to go, but it does satisfy as a temporary insurance plan for those who are seeking a new job that comes with a Family Health Insurance Plan paid by the employer. Unfortunately, there are some who say that they basically can survive on very little pay, as long as the employer covers their family’s health insurance.
Thankfully in the recent months Congress, as a component of the stimulus package that was signed by President Obama, have created a nine-month subsidy covering 65 percent of the COBRA premiums for laid off employees.
The subsidies apply to those who were involuntarily terminated in between Sept. 1, 2008 throughout Dec. 31, 2009. This is by no means a complete solution as COBRA is not available to those who have lost their jobs due to a company filing for bankruptcy for example.
It may be too, that a Family Health Insurance Plan that is taken for a short period of time may actually be cheaper than COBRA. If you are considering COBRA do not decide until you have searched for
