A Dental Bridge
No, this is not something built across a river that allows you to get from once side of town to the other side where your dentist’s office is located. For lack of a better description a
Dental Bridge is more like a partial denture which is used to fill in large gaps of missing teeth in your mouth in lieu of having all teeth pulled for a full set of dentures or false teeth.
The bridge was designed because quite often when one tooth becomes victim of decay or injury, which causes it to be removed, the tooth or teeth next to it also become candidates for extraction or removal which leaves a gap of two or three teeth that need to be replaced.
Doing them one at a time can be costly and painful but the
Dental Bridge can
offer a great alternative to the single tooth method that has been common in dentistry for years.
A good
Dental Bridge allows a person to have a full set of teeth and keep up a good self esteem without the problems that might be associated with filling multiple teeth which are in bad shape, having dental implants put in where each extracted tooth was removed or having all the teeth pulled and a full set of dentures fitted.
A great use for a Dental Bridge is to replace teeth that were damaged in an accident and have had to be removed. If done correctly a bridge of this type makes the persons teeth and mouth look normal while requiring a lot less work, pain and cost than most of
the available other options.
It is possible for a person to have several Dental Bridge pieces made to fit into the mouth and that is one for the nice things about it. Years ago if there were several places in the mouth that had missing teeth the dentistwould quite often recommend that all the teeth come out and a full set of false teeth be used to replace them.
Today it is
becoming more common that the bridge is recommended so that the patient can retain as many original teeth as he or she can for as long as possible.
A good dentist will go over all of
the available options with you and will help you as the patient decide which options are best for your particular case. Don’t hesitate to ask him about a good Dental Bridge as an option if they don’t mention it to you. It is after all your mouth and your teeth and you are the final say in the matter and I would not recommend that full removal be the first option if there are other choices available to you.
